Y3 recently dressed up as Romans and Celts for a Roman Day led by Portals to the Past.  In the morning they learnt about the Romans invading Britain and some of the interesting events which happened during that time. A large wall map was used to show the progress of the invasion and where the roads were built and where the battles took place .

This was followed by a carousel of workshops which includedplaying a traditional Roman game a bit like shove halfpenny but using Roman numbers to total the scores. They did some research about the Romans using detailed display boards and they also had the opportunity to look at real and replica artefacts, to guess what they were and how they were used.

In the afternoon Y3 were shown replicas of weapons and armour and their use was demonstrated. Then a fight between two gladiators was staged with each child taking a role in the proceedings. Audience participation was encouraged and much enjoyed by the children (it was very noisy with all the cheering for the gladiator of their choice to win!).
