Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) are well established at Mayfield School and, since September 2014, French has been taught throughout Key Stage 2. \u00a0In years 3 and 4, children have regular short sessions with their class teachers, whilst in years 5 and 6, children have an hour a week with a qualified language teacher. \u00a0Initially, emphasis is placed on listening and speaking skills, before reading and writing skills are introduced. \u00a0Songs and word games; animations and video clips; role plays and creativity, play an important part in lessons, giving the children a wide range of ways to access and practise the language. In addition, the children are introduced to the culture of France and of the French-speaking countries of the world.<\/p>\n
