\"Orchestra<\/a><\/p>\n

Being part of an orchestra gives children the exciting opportunity to make music as part of a large group, while also improving skills such as sight reading, keeping in time as a team, and playing with expression. \u00a0Mayfield has a vibrant school orchestra led by Anne Taylor, a professional musician who runs a range of music groups and classes across Cambridge. The orchestra rehearses weekly and performs regularly both in school and at external concerts. \u00a0\"Orchestra<\/a><\/p>\n

The children play a variety of genres including popular themes (Star Wars, Harry Potter), classical pieces (Pachelbel\u2019s Canon, Prokofiev\u2019s Peter and The Wolf), folk and traditional pieces (Captain Jack\u2019s Hornpipe, Banuwa), jazz riffs from the popular \u201cRazzmajazz!\u201d and of course, carols during the Christmas term. \u00a0Anne arranges bespoke parts so that players of all instruments and different abilities can participate.<\/i>\u00a0 There are usually around 30 members of the orchestra covering strings, wind, brass and percussion.<\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/strong>I like playing my instrument with other people of different ages (Yael)
\n<\/i>The music we play: fast ones, sad ones, bouncy ones, and interesting ones (Michael)
\n<\/i>I like to play tricky pieces and learn them (Cara)
\n<\/i>Knowing that I\u2019m playing good music without doing lessons (Daniel)
\n<\/i>Making friends and working together (Rosalyn)<\/i><\/p>\n

<\/i>What about the instruments?
\n<\/span><\/strong>I like the viola because it makes low sounds (Niamh)
\n<\/i>We need a double bass (Daniel)
\n<\/i>The cornet music is hard because it\u2019s got high notes and sharps (Esme)<\/i><\/p>\n

<\/i>What do you not like about Orchestra?
\n<\/span><\/strong>It\u2019s early (Freya, Giovanni)
\n<\/i>Nothing \u2013 it\u2019s really good as it is (Greta)
\n<\/i>It could be a bit longer so that we could miss ALL of assembly! (Ebba)<\/i><\/p>\n
