Mayfield pupils have been enjoying  a lot of inter-school sports competitions lately.  Here is a brief round up of some of them:

NetballNetball B team
At the end of April we played in a ‘B Team’ competition at Netherhall Secondary School.  This was Mayfield’s first netball comp in the 8 years Miss Moulds has been here! The team played well and came 3rd in their group of 4.

We have entered various competitions and done extremely well:

Winners of the King’s Hedges football tournament.

We have also played a number of friendly games:

Win against Stapleford Primary 9-0
Win against Arbury Primary 5-1
Win against Histon and Impington Primary 1-0
Loss against Cambridge International School (CIS) 1-2
Win against CIS 5-0

New Girls KitWe have lost two games during the season: One against Histon in the county final and one against CIS. Our record against Histon (worthy county champions) is played 3, won 2, lost 1. The other game we lost, a very close affair at home against CIS was expunged from memory with a comprehensive win in the return match, 5-0.

The girls have trained every Monday morning, come rain or shine for the whole season. The attitude of the entire squad is fantastic and this explains the amazing progress made by each and every member. The girls have played with smiles on their faces and whilst fiercely competitive, the spirit of fair play shown by the girls has drawn praise from opposition coaches and teachers many times during the course of the season.

I am hugely proud of the girls. I am sure they will remember their time in the Mayfield football team with fondness and pride.

Boys Football 2 Boys Football End of Season Report – by team coach Sheryl French
A squad of 16 boys trained  every Friday morning during the season before school. Training involved a short warm up, a bit of skills practice and a game.

Over the season, they played four tournaments and four games against other schools.  The tournaments included:

Netherhall, Kings School, Chesterton and Kings Hedges.

At Netherhall, the A team came third as a result of a penalty shoot narrowly missing second place and the B team played hard against some tough competition.

At Kings School, the A team win their division then got knocked in the semi finals whilst the B team fought hard in their division. Half the tournament was played in snow!

At Chesterton both teams played well winning and losing games and the Kings Hedges tournament in May, the A team came second and the B team fifth and a very enjoyable time was had by players and parents.

In the football matches, the A team win all their matches and the B team nearly all their matches. Lots of goals were scored in some matches with nearly all the team players scoring one or more goals.

Finally, it’s a thank you to the team captains Harry and Oscar and a big thank you to Miss Moulds for buying new footballs and the organisation. Boys Football
