During October the Cabinet of Curiosities set up shop in our playground for two weeks. This art project is run by Jane Watt, artist in residence for the new Darwin Green development. Jane and her assistant Amy were making cyanotypes of curious objects which the children brought in. In case you’re wondering, a cyanotype is a very early form of photograph. To create a cyanotype the object is put on a sheet of paper and exposed to UV light. While this was happening the owner filled in a card about their object and the story behind it. Some children also made a short audio recording about their object. The exposed paper is then put in water and rinsed and then hung up to dry. The children in KS2 brought in lots of lovely curious objects – the snake skin was particularly interesting.
